O Christmas Tree

The students made boxes out of construction paper, cut out a Christmas Tree in the middle and then added tissue paper. A plastic tea light makes it light up from the inside!

The students also used the Doodlecast Mini App to practice adding 3 numbers.

The Explain Everything App has a rotating feature that we used to read ee words.

Adding Doubles in Book Creator

The students used the Book Creator App to help them practice adding doubles. The students took a picture, doubled it by copy and pasting it and then wrote an equation to match.

Here is a similar Book Creator Lesson where the students can listen to their favorite doubles song over an over again!

I gave each student a list of guidelines they had to use to create a monster, when they were finished I mixed up the papers and they had to find the monster that matched the clues. It was a fun way to end a busy week!

We also learned about symmetry.
The students used the Amaziograph App to create symmetrical monsters.

iPads in the Classroom

Pixie is one of my all time favorite apps for the classroom. You can make almost anything for any subject. We used a Double Decker Bus to make 10 in different ways. The students posted their finished slideshow to their student blogs.
You can check them out HERE.

This is a hiding game I made in Pixie. The students can hide some of the fish behind the boat and their partner has to tell them how many are hidden. They can then move the boat to reveal the hidden fish to see if they were right.

Pixie has a variety of virtual manipulatives within the app. I used the base ten blocks to create a -balance the scale. The students drag a copy to make the scale balance.

Click HERE for instructions on creating a lesson in Pixie.

Pic Collage Math

Easy Blog Photo
We went on a shape hunt around our school and took pictures of the shapes we see in our world. When we got back to our room we uploaded the pictures into Pic Collage and labeled them. I had them work in partners. This was one of the wonderful math ideas I got from Mrs. Wideen's Blog.

The students also created shapes with Play Dough and then took pictures and labeled them.

Fact Families with COLOR

 Easy Blog Photo
Teaching at an art school, I fell in love with this math lesson from Teacher Tipster. After showing the students how numbers are related to each other like primary and secondary colors, they created their own color fact family using the Pixie App.

This is the video I used to help me explain the lesson:

A Techy Valentine's Day

We used the Candy Hearts App to create a very special message. They wrote the message and then chose the background and heart color. We posted them to our student blogs for our special someone to see. You can check out our student blogs HERE!
This is the slide show in the app.
It's very easy to manipulate and send.

The students graphed a box of conversation hearts and then used the Pixie App to create a slideshow of their findings...Just a fun way to save paper!
