Here is a fun way to practice time with the book: Bats Around the Clock. Have each student make their own bat clock and then practice telling time as you read the story.

All About Bats
We read all about bats and then sponge painted around them. We wrote three bat facts on a graphic organizer.
This is the best nonfiction book about bats!
This is what we used to sponge paint around the bats. They are tempera cakes...way less messy and they don't get too much paint on the sponge so it makes for a nice textured look. We sponged around the edges in cool colors and then around the bats in warm colors to make them pop.
The students placed the taped bats they cut out in the position they wanted. They were funny...wondering how the white bats would turn black...so we learned about positive and negative space:)
