Split Box iPad Math Center

The students used the Split Box app to practice part part whole.
I used ten as the whole number but you can change it or make it random.

It also has a ten frame setting which I love.

Part Part Whole Dice Game

We used decahedron double dice to practice part part whole. The student rolled the dice, they counted out unifix cubes for the outside number and then in a different color counted out unifix cubes for the inside number. They counted the total and wrote that number in a box. They drew a line on the second part and wrote the parts that make up that whole.

You could use a regular dice and roll it twice but I like the ten sided dice so the numbers are bigger.
The students thought they were the coolest dice EVER!
I ordered the dice from Kim Suttons website.

Mystery Addends

This was a SUPER fun way to practice missing addends. Give two students a card with a number on it without them looking at it (I just wrote the numbers as the students were coming up so there's no prep which I always LOVE). The class has to add them together and then one of the students standing calls on someone sitting to tell them the total number. The two students have to look at each other and figure out what number they are. So each one knows a part and the whole number and they have to figure out what the other part is. Get ready for lots of giggles!!! You can also put students into groups of three and give them a stack of cards and they can take turns being an addend or the person that adds them  together.

Common Core Part Part Whole

Have the students choose 2 colors of connecting cubes with a whole number between 5 and 10(colors together...they'll be very tempted to make a pattern). Give them a half a sheet of paper and have them trace the whole on their paper and then put a line where the part should be. Have them trace the whole again , and then write in the numbers for each part and whole. They can "see" how the part part whole relates to actual numbers.

Part Part Whole Practice

Have the students fill in the missing Part.
Read the students story problems and have them fill in the parts of the story problem in the blank worksheet. This will help them understand and organize what's being asked in a story problem.
