A Techy Valentine's Day

We used the Candy Hearts App to create a very special message. They wrote the message and then chose the background and heart color. We posted them to our student blogs for our special someone to see. You can check out our student blogs HERE!
This is the slide show in the app.
It's very easy to manipulate and send.

The students graphed a box of conversation hearts and then used the Pixie App to create a slideshow of their findings...Just a fun way to save paper!

Mondrian Hearts in Pixie

The students used the Pixie app to create three hearts and then used the paint bucket feature to fill it in with primary colors in the style of Piet Mondrian.

Mondrian Style Hearts

I used these hearts to make a Thank You card for our volunteers...but next year it will become a Valentine's Day project.
The students cut a pre-traced white and black heart and then glued 1/2 inch black lines down and across it. They used yellow, red and blue markers to color in some of the sections.

When they were done gluing on the black strips, they trimmed the edges of the heart before gluing it to the bigger black piece of construction paper.

Valentine's Day Bulletin Board

We drew lines across a piece of white construction paper and then cut out a black symmetrical heart. We glued on the heart and then colored in the lines to create these colorful hearts.

3D Hearts

My wonderful coworker came up with this cute art idea.
We took 8x8 pieces of black construction paper and drew 4 lines along the edge the width of a ruler. The students traced a heart in the middle and then colored it in with oil pastels. They chose a different color for the outside, traced the heart with black and then added tints to heart with white. I cut and taped the corners to make it 3D and that was it...short, sweet and cute.

Piet Mondrian Style Hearts

We painted coffee filters with warm and cool liquid watercolors. We added the lines and then the heart. When the glue was dry we trimmed the edges.

Heart Pattern trace one on card stock and then trace enough for your class on a piece of folded black construction paper.

Candy Heart Mini Book

I'm taking a book making class and our homework was to create two class books. I thought I would integrate it with math and since it's almost Valentine's Day... it's heart themed. Read candy heart story problems and then have the students draw a picture and fill in the math sentence.

Hershey Kiss Math

Estimate how many hershey kisses there are and then count them by tens and ones.

For the first two we listened to directions using ordinal numbers and then I had them fill in the kisses and try and guess the pattern.

They had to make different combinations of eight.

This was a cute idea from kids-learn.

Heart Themed Square 1 Art

Here are some examples of our square 1 art fundraiser projects. We traced a heart in the middle and then drew a horizontal and vertical line. We mixed each color with white to create the textured look.
