Ice Cream Bulletin Board

Back to School and a little ice cream fun.

I got ice cream poppers, tattoos and stickers from Oriental Trading to give each student as a welcome back to school gift.

First Grade is Sweet!

I saw this adorable bulletin board on Pinterest but there wasn't a link so here is my version. I used butcher paper but the picture I saw looked like they may have used tissue paper. I couldn't find a cute border to go with it so I just cut up scrapbook paper into 3 inch strips.

Here is a little first day gift to go with my bulletin board.

This cute first day idea is from First Grade and Fancy Free.
They have included a free printable.

Parent Orientation

At back to school night the students left a picture of themselves and clues for their parents to guess which desk was theirs.
The parents wrote a note to their child in white crayon on a piece of white construction paper. When the students returned to school today they painted the paper with watercolors to reveal the secret message. It was fun for them to see what their parents wrote or drew.

Flying into First Grade

Here is my back to school bulletin board in the hallway. The students made airplanes with scrapbook paper and then attached a flag programmed with their names. It was a pretty easy project for the first day and I got to assess how they cut.

Read to Self Pillows

When my son was in kindergarten he made a fleece tie pillow and it quickly became one of his all time favorite things...five years later my oldest still has it on his bed. So I have decided to make them for my class. You can buy them pre-cut at Oriental Trading but they are pretty expensive. They are very easy to prepare and make from scratch. A parent helper will come in one day to help the students tie them. Click HERE for a how to on adding their initials to them.

The pillows will stay in our class all year. The students can sit on them at circle, use them for read to self or keep them at their desk.

I cut 2 18x18 inch squares and stacked them. The bottom is solid green.

I cut it into this shape. The ties are about 3 1/2 x 2 inches...it doesn't have to be perfect.
Tie three sides together and then fill it with polyester fiber fill and then tie the last side(double knot) and you're done.

Classroom Decor

So I rearranged my room a little this year and added some new features. I made children's book border for my walls by printing book covers from the Internet and making them 8x10 to fit in frames I got at the dollar store. The pictures are terrible because of the reflection but they turned out pretty cute!

I also added a sign to my reading area to make it a little more inviting.

Back to School Bulletin Boards

I used 3 inch strips of construction paper for the bag and I printed the students names on popcorn scrapbook paper. Not sure I love it...plain yellow may look better. I got the popcorn border at JoAnns.

My coworker made this super cute crossword puzzle with the names of the students in her class.

Back to School This and That

We made T-Shirts for our meet and greet.

Treats for the first day of school.

I take pictures of the students on the first day of school in funky sunglasses and then we use those to hold our art for the year.

Management

If the students get a compliment from me or anyone else as a class, they get to put an apple on the giving tree. If they get twenty apples they get to vote on three different rewards.

This idea is from Fun in First
Click HERE to get a copy of her management system.
You can print out a paper to send home to parents each week to let them know how their child's behavior was for the week.
I love that it's warm and cool colors also!
If the students are on blue or purple they get to put their clip in a bucket. I choose one clip and that student gets to pick out of a treasure box. This encourages them to make good choices, say nice things and be a good friend!
I love this idea from Teacher Tipster!
