Teacher Tally

We graphed our favorite color as a class and then decided we wanted to see what the teachers favorite colors were. We each took a tally sheet and went to work. We walked the halls together, one student would go into a classroom and ask the teacher what their favorite color was. Then they would come out into the hall and report to the rest of the class. When we got back to the room we turned our tally chart into a graph and then compared our color graph to the teacher color graph. I sent an email warning teachers before we left so any teacher that didn't want us to interrupt them could let me know beforehand.

Ice Cream

This idea came from  We Heart Art
We cut out five scoops of ice cream. We painted one the original color we picked out, then we added some black to it and painted two scoops in shades. Then we added white and painted two in tints of that color. I had them choose only one shade to add to their ice cream so it would fit on the black paper. At last we added paper punch sprinkles and a cherry on top.

When you are finished with the art project. Eat Napoleon Ice Cream and graph their favorite flavor.

Color Mixing

                                                             Color Mixing Printable

This idea came from The Cottage Nest
We traced circles and colored three chicks with primary colors. We predicted what colors they would make. We mixed together and then painted the remaining three birds with secondary colors. We then wrote down the actual color they made. After painting, we drew birds facing different directions.

Harold and the Purple Crayon

The class decided that purple was Harold's favorite color so we chose our favorite color and then drew a picture using that color.

Click on the picture to download a copy.

We made our crayon drawings into a class book.

Joan Miro Art

We learned about lines and shapes. If you connect a line it makes a shape. We also learned about the famous artist Joan Miro and then tried to recreate his art with lines and shapes. We drew our picture with a pencil first and then traced over it with a permanent marker and colored it in. This lesson is from Deep Space Sparkle.

Shaving Cream Art

Shaving cream and food coloring: First you put the shaving cream on a paper plate and flatten it out then you add drops of food coloring all over it. We took a wooden skewer and made vertical and horizontal lines to create this look. After making the lines you put a piece of construction paper over it, press down a little, lift and wipe off with a paper towel. The food coloring sticks after the shaving cream is wiped off. We used primary colors and then tried it again with secondary colors.
