Fact Families with COLOR

 Easy Blog Photo
Teaching at an art school, I fell in love with this math lesson from Teacher Tipster. After showing the students how numbers are related to each other like primary and secondary colors, they created their own color fact family using the Pixie App.

This is the video I used to help me explain the lesson:

Ten Frame Fact Families

Have the students roll a ten sided dice. Have them color in that many squares with a crayon in the first ten frame. Have them roll it again and then color in that number in the bottom box with a different colored crayon. Have the students make a ten and then add the numbers. Lastly, they fill in the fact family. Addition Sentence and Fact Family Names

This was a cute fact family project for the kids to do with their name. Get this awesome printable:
Oh My Classity Class.
The students black(consonants) and red(vowels) wrote their friends name and then had to come up with an addition sentence for the consonants and vowels.

Here is a fun math activity from mathwire.com. Before I handed it out to students I wrote a fact family in the windows and door with a white crayon. The students had to water color the house to reveal their fact family. Then they filled in the bottom half.

Find the missing addend and self check.

You can even cover the symbol so the students need to decide whether to add or subtract to get the answer.
