We used the Glaze App to turn our sort of boring iPad art into a fun snowman. These are our Holiday cards for parents.

My Snowman Friend
We drew and chalked a snowman and then wrote about our snowman friend. I used this Snowman Writing Prompt.
I had the students trace a circle and then I showed them how to draw the rest step by step. I glued the lines they drew and the next day we chalked them. We used warm colors for the scarf and hat and then chose a cool color for the background. They used a ruler to makes the stripes on the hat. I had them laminated to make the chalk stick and the colors pop.
This is my sample:

Snowman Subitizing
I love subitizing on the Promethean board because the students can come up to the board and manipulate it to show their thinking. I also added a make ten addition flipchart to practice seeing ten when adding two numbers. The students can have their our double ten frame on their desk for practice and then come up and drag a copy of the snowman to show how they made a ten.

Dream Snow
We read Dream Snow by Eric Carle and then wrote three reasons why we like or do not like snow. We chose one reason and made a paper collage. I took a picture and then added a blanket of snow in the InstaCollage app.

Snowmen at Night
We created snowmen using a glue and foil technique.
They turned out very cute but it was really hard to get a picture. We used the link below to type in what we would do if we were a snowman at night.
Click HERE for directions on the glue and foil technique from Art Projects for Kids.
This is what it looked like before putting a light layer of black paint on the snowman.

Winter Five Senses
We reviewed the five senses and then applied them to the winter season. We wrote a sentence for each sense on one page of a step book.
Here's a great video on how to make a step book:
