Subitizing Snack

Here are the students waiting for their turn to subitize:)

I loved this idea for a domino doubles snack from Bishop's Blackboard and decided to turn it into a subitizing activity. Each student was given a domino to recreate and then hide. Each student had the chance to bring their graham cracker and chocolate chip domino up to the document camera for the other students to guess what number it was. The students lifted their top plate for 3 seconds while the other students tried to guess the number.

Subitizing Partner Game

We have been doing a lot of subitizing lately and I found this awesome game to help develop the skill. Cover each square on the game board with a square. Have one partner lift up the square for three seconds while the other tries to guess what the number is. They put the square back after three seconds and then guess the number. If they are correct they get to keep the square. If they get it wrong they have to put the square back and it's the other persons turn. The one with the most squares at the end wins. My students loved this game!

Subitizing Videos and Powerpoints

*subitizing means to instantly recognize a quantity without counting.
These would be simple enough to make to suit your needs but I thought these were cute and appropriate for first grade.
