I gave each student a list of guidelines they had to use to create a monster, when they were finished I mixed up the papers and they had to find the monster that matched the clues. It was a fun way to end a busy week!

We also learned about symmetry.
The students used the Amaziograph App to create symmetrical monsters.

Haunted House Writing and Art

Here is a sample book:

This is the step up to writing approach we used before writing our final draft.
We read this book to help us come up with ideas for our story:

This is what you will see if you scan the QR code with a cell phone. I just videoed the students as they were reading them to the class. After I downloaded the videos to you tube, I just cut and pasted the URL into QRStuff.com and printed them out. It was pretty easy.

I got the cute writing prompt idea from Teacher Bits and Bobs
I printed the writing paper from: First Grade Funtastic

Moonlight The Halloween Cat

This is a very cute book by Cynthia Rylant about a cat that loves Halloween. We created cat art and then wrote about 3 reasons why we like or do not like Halloween.

The art idea is from the book Art for all Seasons. I traced the head and body and then they cut paper for the rest. We folded a strip of paper and then cut the corner to create the fence.
This is my sample.

We also learned about bats and then made a paper plate bat.

We are working on tally marks in math and I found this cute bat activity to go it.

Pumpkin Prints

We practiced drawing Jack-o-Lanterns and then we sketched them onto scratch foam. We rolled on orange paint and then turned it over onto yellow construction paper to create a print. I had a parent pull students one at a time to print which made it very easy on me.

Here are some sample sketches.

This is what it looks like before we turn it over to print.

Here is a great Free Pumpkin Life Cycle to go with it.
