Adding Doubles in Book Creator

The students used the Book Creator App to help them practice adding doubles. The students took a picture, doubled it by copy and pasting it and then wrote an equation to match.

Here is a similar Book Creator Lesson where the students can listen to their favorite doubles song over an over again!

Doubles Splat

We wrote the double fact on the outside of a piece of paper and then painted  that number of dots on one side. We squished them together to create the double.

Domino Drill: In partners have the students lay out a bunch of dominoes face up. One student has to think of a missing addend problem, the other student has to guess which domino they are talking about. Such as a domino that has a 3 and a 4. They would say 3 plus what number is 7. Whoever has the most domino at the end wins.

Doubles Flip Chart

Take half of a large piece of construction paper and fold it in half. Cut 1 1/2 inch pieces all the way across the top layer. Write the math sentence on the top and the answers underneath. Have each student make their own to help them study double facts.

The students start to get very excited when they notice the pattern of counting by 2's.
When the students are finished making the flip charts pair them up and have them quiz each other on their double facts. We switched partners (within 5 seconds) twice for extra practice. They thought that was fun.

We also made these flip charts and then used paint to show the double.
