We took pictures of patterns in our world and then made a pattern collage in this Pic Collage app. The students uploaded them to their blogs.

We wrapped up our pattern unit by having a little fun. We made pattern fruit loop necklaces and pattern crowns. We wore a pattern shirt to school and had the option of bringing a stuffed animal or toy that had a pattern on it. We colored our t-shirt pattern on a piece of paper and then colored in the pattern and circled the pattern unit. To wrap up the day we made body movement patterns.

 

T-Shirt Pattern


The students came up with a body movement for each color in their pattern and then we did them as a class.
 

Body Movement Patterns

This was so much fun! The students made a cube train pattern and then make up body movements for each color they used in their pattern. In whole group we tried the body movement patterns that each student made up.

Line Patterns

 

After learning about lines and shapes, we practiced a bit and then created a pattern. We chose three colors and water colored the pattern.

Patterns

People Patterns:

We started out easy with a boy, girl, boy, girl pattern and then they had to guess what the other patterns were.

Shirts: Stripes, No stripes, Stripes, No stripes.

Bottoms: Pants, Shorts, Shorts, Pants, Shorts, Shorts

Hair: Blond, Blond, Brown, Blond, Blond, Brown

We then went back to our desks and created patterns with cubes and colored them in.
