The students learned about turkeys and then wrote facts about them in the Pixie App. They drew turkeys in the Mini Monet App and then used the paint feature to add the fun glitter feathers to their drawing.

The students created their own Color by Number using the Pixie App. I printed them out and they chose a classmate's paper to solve and color in.

After reading about turkeys we traced our hand and labeled it. We wrote facts we learned about turkeys.

The students wrote about what they were thankful for and then chose three things to draw. When they were finished they learned about overlap and how to place the pictures in their setting.

We made a fun turkey that gobbles. When the sponge is wet and rubbed along the string it makes a really loud fun gobble.

Stone Soup

We have been reading different versions of Stone Soup and today we finally got to make and eat our own stone soup(instead of a Thanksgiving feast).
We compared the characters and noticed they were all different but that the main idea stayed the same, so it was easy to map out a beginning, middle and end.
I assigned eat student an item to bring for the soup, we put all the ingredients into a crock pot and just let it warm up.
We used the main idea and then chose our own characters and setting to retell the story of Stone Soup.

Pattern Block Turkeys

We started with the hexagon in the middle and then chose six shapes at a time to add to our turkey. I had them choose one shape at a time and then let them choose whatever colors but I which I would have stuck to one and had them use that all the way around and then go back for another shape and color. It was also helpful to have them create their design and then glue it on.

This super cute idea was from The First Grade Parade

We practiced with real pattern blocks before creating our paper turkeys.

Turkey Feathers

Our second graders did this and I just had to share it. I guess they took a feather shaped piece of cardboard and glued a string onto it to create the lines. Then covered it with foil and colored it in with marker. You can't see the turkey face but he's really cute!

After learning about lines and shapes, we practiced a bit and then created a pattern. We chose three colors and water colored the pattern.

Thanksgiving

We dressed up like Pilgrims and Native Americans.

We made place mats for our feast.

This year we made them a little smaller, it just depends on how well your students will be able to weave paper.

We ground corn to make flour.

We peeled potatoes in preparation for our feast.

We made Hats and Headbands for our feast.

Turkey Art:
I think this year I'll make the back of the turkey the
color wheel to add in that art curriculum.

Turkey Hand print Card:

We used feathers and ink to write Native American symbols:
We appreciate our pencils now!
