Elmer was created by using one inch construction paper squares in all different colors. First the students covered the back side of the elephant with glue and then they matched up the squares to cover the back. When it was dry they turned it over and cut out the shape of the elephant then glued it together on another piece of paper. The picture above was also done by one of my kindergarten classes but can easily be adapted to first. They can also write a story about their elephant.
